October 1 – October 16, 2016

Breast cancer is one of the leading health crises for women. 1 in 8 women, and an ever-increasing percentage of men will be diagnosed with breast cancer in their lifetimes. There is currently no known cure for breast cancer, and its early diagnosis is critical to survival.

Models Giving Back is pleased to present Rock Your Rack, an annual fundraising event combining the best of SL Music, Art and Fashion to support the work of breast cancer charities and raise awareness for early detection which is critical to a positive outcome for this devastating disease.

This year’s event will support the National Breast Cancer Foundation which provides free mammograms, education, support and early detection services to anyone in need.

The 2016 event involves 63 designers including Gold Sponsors: AlaFolie, Athena Couture, Dulce Secrets, Emerald Couture, Empyrean Forge, LaVian & Co, Phedora, Prism and Kultivate Magazine. In addition, this year’s event will feature 2D and 3D artists for the first time with an Art show sponsored by Kultivate Magazine. Add to that the 4 Tribute concerts, 12 DJ Dance Parties, 7 Live Music Artist Shows, 9 Fashion Shows, the 10L Hunt, Silent Auctions, Art Auction and you have one must-visit event.

About Models Giving Back

Models Giving Back is an agency of professional, certified Second Life models who give of their time and talents to raise funds for legitimate and verified SL and RL charities.

Models Giving Back was founded in October of 2012 by Jamee Sandalwood after a previous agency dedicated to charity work was forced to close due to the owner leaving Second Life. Jamee felt the work that was being done needed to be continued and set out to lead the models that were already a part of the former agency into new and bigger endeavors at the newly created Models Giving Back.

To date the agency has partnered with dozens of designers and provided models for runway, print and other functions that support charities around SL.

Rock Your Rack is the creation of Jamee Sandalwood and is owned exclusively by Models Giving Back in Second Life.

About the National Breast Cancer Foundation

The National Breast Cancer Foundation was founded in 1991 by breast cancer survivor, Janelle Hail. She was diagnosed with breast cancer in 1980 at the age of 34.  At the time of her diagnosis, there was little information about the disease, and she was forced to make a decision about her health with few options. After her treatment, Janelle made a commitment to help women around the world by educating them about breast cancer and the importance of early detection. NBCF’s mission is to save lives through early detection and to provide mammograms for those in need. This mission includes increasing awareness through education, providing diagnostic breast care services for those in need, and providing nurturing support services.

I had the honor and pleasure of choreographing two of the songs in this amazing and beautiful production by Subversive Vavoom aka Lindy Hopper.  It was created as a celebration of her 10 years in Second Life. May her next 10 years be as magical as this!

Her Name Is Alice by Shinedown

I invite you to a world where there is no such thing as time
And every creature lends themselves to change your state of mind
And the girl that chased the rabbit, drank the wine, and took the pill
Has locked herself in limbo to see how it truly feels

To stand outside your virtue
No one can ever hurt you
Or so they say

Her name is Alice (Alice)
She crawls into the window
Through shapes and shadows
Alice (Alice)
And even though she’s dreaming, she knows

Sometimes the curiosity can kill the soul but leave the pain
And every ounce of innocence is left inside her brain
And through the looking glass we see she’s painfully returned
But now off with her head I fear is everyone’s concern

You see there’s no real ending
It’s only the beginning
Come out and play

Her name is Alice (Alice)
She crawls into the window
Through shapes and shadows
Alice (Alice)
And even though she’s dreaming
She’s unlocked the meaning for you

This kingdom
Good riddance
Her freedom
And innocence
Has brought this whole thing down

Her name is Alice (Alice)
She crawls into the window
Through shapes and shadows
Alice (Alice)
And even though she’s dreaming
She’s unlocked the meaning

She’s unlocked the meaning for you

Le Cirque de Nuit at Idle Rogue, home of Guerilla Burlesque

I had the pleasure of attending the opening night show of this season’s Le Cirque de Nuit on the Idle Rogue sim, home of Guerilla Burlesque. Having seen last year’s show, I knew I was in for another treat this year. With much anticipation, I turned the lights down, put on my headphones, turned up the music, and completely immersed myself in this beautiful, unforgettable feast for the eyes and ears. I laughed, I cried, I was transported to another world and escaped mundane existence for a little while.

This year’s Cirque also had much personal meaning for me, and was made extra-special with a Cirque debut performance by my good friend, Lindy Hopper aka Subversive Vavoom. Having performed in both RL and SL, I am privileged to know all about the blood, sweat, tears and excitement that goes into a show. I’m so thrilled for her and everyone involved!  You can see more pictures in my Guerilla Burlesque album on Flickr.

Thank you to everyone that had a part in putting on this show. Once again, I rejoiced in the uniquely intimate and special human experiences that Second Life allows us to share with each other every single day.

Don’t miss this event if you can help it!  There are two more shows this weekend. Tonight, Saturday, April 4, 2015 at 7pm SLT and tomorrow, Sunday, April 5, 2015 at 7pm SLT. More info on the Idle Rogue blog.
